"Qarabag" lost to "Liverpool" 6-0 in the 8th round of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League season. However, the Azerbaijani club managed to achieve an unprecedented success for a CIS club in Europe's top competition in 10 years.
Idman.Biz reports that "Qarabag" finished 22nd overall in the tournament and qualified for the play-off stage of the tournament.
Thus, the Azerbaijani club became the first CIS team in 10 years to qualify for the Champions League play-off stage. The last CIS club to qualify for the Champions League play-off stage was "Zenit", which qualified for the 1/8 finals in 2016.
In addition, for the first time in its history, a team from Azerbaijan will play in the play-offs to qualify for the 1/8 final stage of the Champions League.
"Qarabag"'s opponent will be determined in the draw: either PSG or "Newcastle United".
The Champions League play-off draw will take place on January 30. The ceremony will begin at 15:00 Baku time.
