According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the transfer amounted to 63.5 million euros. The Portuguese team's management will receive another 10 million euros in bonuses. At Arsenal, the Swede will play with the number 14, which was worn by Thierry Henry, the best scorer in the history of the London team.
27-year-old Gyökeres has been playing for Sporting since 2023. The forward previously played for England's Coventry and Brighton, Wales' Swansea, which plays in the English Premier League, and Sweden's Brommapojkarna. As part of Sporting, he became the Portuguese champion twice and won the national cup once.
Last season, Gyökeres scored 39 goals in 33 games of the Portuguese championship. In the 2023/24 season, the striker scored 29 times in 33 matches. He played 26 games for the Swedish national team and scored 15 goals.
