Today is the day the Azerbaijan Professional Football League (PFL) was founded.
İdman.biz reports that the organization, which was established on July 2, 2008, turns 17 years old.
The PFL was founded 17 years ago by Rovnag Abdullayev, who was the president of AFFA at the time, during a meeting held in the administrative building of AFFA. The first president of the league was Ramin Musayev. Since the summer of 2022, the president of the organization has been Elkhan Samadov.
The organization, celebrating its birthday, has been holding domestic competitions for these 17 years. Since its establishment, the PFL, which organizes the Azerbaijan Premier League, the I League (formerly the I Division) and the Azerbaijan Cup, has also made a number of innovations. The Reserve League and the II League were restored after many years, and the Regional League is held. Also, during these years, the level of the championship has noticeably increased, as a result of which our clubs have performed more successfully in the international arena and have repeatedly qualified for the group stage of European Cups.
