Azerbaijani clubs have scored their 500th goal in European Cups. Sport24.az reports with reference to the press service of the Professional Football League that the jubilee goal coincided with the first qualifying round match of the UEFA Europa League "Sabah" - "Sele".
Before the game of the Baku club with the Slovenian representative, Azerbaijani teams had scored 499 goals in 470 matches in the history of European Cups. Pavol Šafranko, who opened the scoring in this match, became the author of the 500th goal.
The debut of our clubs in European Cups took place in 1994. During this period, our teams scored 122 goals in the Champions League, 294 in the Europa League (formerly the UEFA Cup), 64 in the Conference League, 19 in the Intertoto Cup, and 1 in the Cup Winners' Cup. 21 clubs of our country have experienced the excitement of European Cups.
It should be noted that the author of the first goal of our representatives in Europe was Yadigar Suleymanov. The "Kapaz" football player found the net of "Austria" (1:5) in Vienna on August 22, 1995.
