Benfica captain Nicolas Otamendi has apologized to fans for their defeat to Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
"Report" reports with reference to the Portuguese press that the 37-year-old defender said they were open to criticism for the 2:3 defeat to Qarabag.
He stressed that it was difficult to end the match, in which they were ahead, with a defeat:
"I think the culprits of the defeat should be criticized. Thanks to this criticism, we can determine where we went wrong. The season in the Champions League has just begun. We still have many games ahead of us. I apologize to all the fans who bought tickets to watch the match with Qarabag."
N. Otamendi said that they should forget about the defeat and look at the upcoming matches:
"We have to look forward. We have to work hard and finish our next matches with a victory. We understand the concern of our fans."
It should be noted that Nicolas Otamendi was a member of the Argentina national team, which became the world champion in 2022. He played for the English club Manchester City from 2015 to 2020.
