Nicolas Pepe, a member of the Ivory Coast national team and Villarreal forward, has harshly criticized goalkeeper Alban Lafont's national team selection.

"A player who first chose the French national team and then the Ivory Coast national team? If I were the head coach or the federation, I would immediately say "no, thank you." He was born in Burkina Faso, but he chose Ivory Coast. He is not originally Ivorian, he just has a passport," the footballer said.
It should be noted that Alban Lafont previously represented the French youth national team, but was later called up to the main team of Ivory Coast.
