"Newell's Old Boys" club has openly stated that they are working on a medium-term plan to see Lionel Messi back in the team in the first half of 2027. Sport24.az reports that the club's vice-president, Juan Manuel Medina, expressed this desire in an interview with "L"Équipe":
"We are working on Leo playing for Newell's Old Boys in the first half of 2027. This project is of great importance not only for the club, but also for the city of Rosario and Argentine football."
