The International Football Association Board has made changes to the football rules regarding 11-meter penalty kicks.
Lent.az reports that, starting from the new season, referees will allow penalty kicks to be retaken when players double-touch the ball while taking the shot. Previously, in the case of a similar rule violation, referees would not count the goal.
Discussions regarding the review of this rule began in March 2025, when "Atletico Madrid" striker Julian Alvarez committed a similar violation in the penalty shootout for the right to play against "Real Madrid" in the 1/4 finals of the Champions League. The referee did not allow the Argentinian's goal because he hooked the ball with his supporting foot before the shot, and as a result, the "mattress makers" lost the series and were eliminated from the tournament.
