"Neftçi" women's team's Champions League first qualifying round match will be held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, based on the Israeli club's appeal to UEFA.
İdman.biz reports that this was stated to "Report" by Siyasat Asgarov, the head coach of the Baku representative.
"As you know, there is also an Israeli team in our group. They appealed to UEFA in writing not to play in Turkey. The organization also changed the venue of the games to Albania. We thought and expected that the games would be held in Azerbaijan. However, UEFA decided to organize the meetings in a neutral venue. However, Turkey wanted to accept it. Also, I don't think we couldn't organize these games. More difficult tournaments have been held in Azerbaijan. This was UEFA's decision," the expert said.
Asgarov emphasized that the conditions in Albania will be the same for the teams: "If the games were held in Azerbaijan, I think it would benefit our team. Now, in addition to us, there will be a different stadium for the rivals. Neither "Fomget" nor "Kiryat" will be considered a superior side. The fans will also be neutral for everyone."
It should be noted that the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League will consist of semi-final and final matches. If "Neftçi" defeats "Fomget", they will face the Israeli representative "Kiryat" in the final. The winning side in this match will qualify for the second qualifying round. The final will be held on August 3 in the same city.
