Idman.Biz, referring to sport24.az, reports that one of the legionary football players whose contract the "white-blacks" want to extend has already been determined.
We are talking about Nigerian midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew.
Head coach Yuri Vernidub wants to continue with the 29-year-old football player if he stays in the team. The Ukrainian specialist consistently gives Matthew a chance in the starting lineup and is satisfied with his game discipline.
Matthew, the winner of the African Cup among players under 20, was transferred to "Neftchi" in September 2025. At that time, a 1+1 year contract was signed between the parties.
It seems that the extension clause in the contract will be activated and Matthew will wear the uniform of the capital's representative in the 2026/2027 season as well.
It should be noted that this midfielder has been in the starting lineup in all matches held after Vernidub's appointment.
