The Azerbaijani U-17 women's national football team conceded most of the goals from set pieces in the European Championship qualifying round.
This was stated to "Report" by the team's head coach, Nargiz Gurbanova.
She also emphasized that the opponents were strong:
"All three games were really difficult for us. We knew Wales was strong. In the match against this opponent, we tried to play more confidently in defense and not concede many goals. Unfortunately, we lost with a score of 0:7. Most of the goals were scored from set pieces. We played the same way against Kosovo. Although Wales managed to emerge as the leader from the group, they drew with Kosovo. Nevertheless, Kosovo made us feel that they came from the A League."
The head coach stated that the players' game quality was low:
"Our players' ball handling, as well as the quality of the game, is low. This was clearly felt when looking at the other two opponents. But this does not mean that we should be hopeless. In fact, we did what we could. As for the game with Moldova, we defeated this opponent last year. This time, their players were in better condition than us. Of course, this is not an excuse. We were trying to earn at least 1 point. Despite the fact that we were playing on the opponent's field and there was also a fan factor. I think we could have won 3 points as well. But we settled for 1 point."
N. Gurbanova spoke about the plans:
"Of course, there will be training camps ahead. They are planned for January and February. Because in March there will be the second stage of the European Championship again."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team, which is in Group I of League B of the European Championship qualifying round, lost to Wales with a score of 0:7, and to Kosovo with a score of 0:6. The national team's last match in the group - against Moldova - ended goalless.
