Former Portuguese national team player Luis Nani wanted to play in the mini-football World Championship in Baku as part of his national team.
İdman.biz reports that Orkhan Huseynov, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Minifootball Federation, told AZERTAC about this.
According to him, the 38-year-old veteran midfielder appealed to the World Minifootball Federation in this regard: "An online meeting was held between the parties. Nani was not allowed to participate in the World Cup due to the limit set for professional players in minifootball. It was stated that the former football player can play for the national team in the upcoming European Championship."
Huseynov noted that the international organization intends to involve former Slovak national team captain Marek Hamsik and Bosnia and Herzegovina national team striker Edin Dzeko, who currently plays for Fenerbahce, in this sport in order to increase the popularity of mini-football worldwide.
