Former forward of the Azerbaijan national team, Nadir Nabiyev, gave an interview to sportal.az.
He commented on the appointment of Aykhan Abbasov as the head coach of our national team: "I expected such an appointment after our national team's hard-fought draw against Ukraine. The game against Ukraine showed that Aykhan Abbasov was able to make successful changes in the national team in one day. I believe that the national team will score points in the next matches. I wish him and the national team success."
Nabiyev, who was one of the national team's forwards, also shared his expectations for today's match against France as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round: "Probably no one expects us to defeat the French national team. I expect a good game from the national team, I'm not saying we will defeat France, but a big score doesn't even cross my mind. I can't compare the national team of that time with the current one. But some strong players who were there at that time are no longer here."
