The Portuguese Football Federation is considering Jose Mourinho as one of the main candidates for the position of head coach of the national team.
Idman.Biz reports that, according to ESPN, it is planned to send an official offer to the experienced specialist after Roberto Martinez's contract expires.
Martinez's current contract with the national team is valid until July 31, 2026. Currently, 63-year-old Mourinho manages Lisbon's Benfica club, and his agreement with the club is scheduled until June 2027.
The Portuguese national team successfully passed the World Cup qualifying round with the current coaching staff. The team scored 13 points in six matches, took first place in Group F and qualified for the final stage. The opponents of the Portuguese in the group were the national teams of Hungary, Ireland and Armenia.
This result went down in history as the seventh consecutive appearance of the Portuguese national team at the World Championship.
