Benfica's head coach Jose Mourinho, speaking about the new format of the Champions League main stage, touched upon the opening game in which the Lisbon club lost 2:3 to Qarabag. Sport24.az reports that the experienced specialist said the following about the victory of the Azerbaijani champion:
"We are at a point where every point matters. My team is familiar with this format because they played in the Europa League last season. But this is a bit of a strange format, because many teams that we don't play can continue their journey. You can't control your own destiny, so every point matters. I don't think I'll be misunderstood if I say this. But if you look at Benfica's schedule, if we had won 3 points in the match against Qarabag, it could have been a starting point. We could have then collected points in the next match, but now we are in a more difficult situation."
It should be noted that Benfica will be a guest of Chelsea today in the second round.
