Former Russian national team midfielder Alexander Mostovoy compared the level of local clubs with the Azerbaijani champion "Qarabag." Sport24.az reports that he stated this in an interview with the "Sovetsky Sport" newspaper.
According to Mostovoy, the current format and legionnaire limit would allow Russian clubs to be more ambitious on the European stage:
"With the current format and 15 legionnaires, there is no doubt that "Zenit" would reach the Champions League play-off stage. CSKA would also advance to the play-offs of European competitions. Our clubs are stronger than "Kairat" and "Qarabag," but of course, there are areas to work on."
It should be noted that due to the ban imposed by FIFA and UEFA, Russian clubs and national teams have not been able to participate in international competitions since February 2022.
