Dragoș Vinereanu, head of the cardiology department of the hospital where Romanian expert Mircea Lucescu spent his last days, spoke about his conversation with him.
Idman.Biz reports this with reference to foreign media.
According to the doctor, the legendary coach said that he wanted to spend the last minutes of his life on the football field.
"One day he said to me: "Professor, all I want is to die on the football field." I felt that he was sincere and in a certain sense in harmony with himself," said Dr. Vinereanu.
According to him, Lucescu always regretted being away from the field and dedicated a large part of his life to football.
Vinereanu noted that Lucescu fully dedicated himself to his profession and football, and played an important role in the formation of several generations.
It should be reminded that Lucescu was hospitalized after losing consciousness during a meeting at the national team's camp before the match with Slovakia. He died in the hospital on April 7 at the age of 80.
