New information has been released about Mircea Lucescu, who was hospitalized with a severe case of the flu.
According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, Lucescu, who currently coaches the Romanian national team, has been hospitalized in a "critical but controlled condition."
The decision to hospitalize him was made taking into account his "complex heart history" and the experienced coach's age. This has forced the coach to temporarily suspend his professional commitments with the Romanian national team to prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
"It's true, I'm in the hospital. I was there for a while at the beginning of the year, and then I was discharged home. But during that time I caught the flu and had to be hospitalized again," Lucescu said.
Lucescu has been leading the Romanian national team since August 2024. This spring, the team will play play-off matches for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Lucescu's team's first opponent will be the Turkish national team, which will be played on March 26.
