Romanian national team head coach Mircea Lucescu has set a new record. Sport24.az reports that he is the oldest coach in the history of national teams. Lucescu led the team at the age of 80 years and 7 months in the play-off match against Turkey (0:1) of the WC-2026 qualifying round.
The Romanian specialist thus surpassed the record of Alan Taylor, the former coach of the Cook Islands national team, who led the team at the age of 80 years and 6 months.
The experienced coach began his career in 1979 while managing "Corvinul". He later worked in Ukraine with "Shakhtar" and "Dynamo" Kyiv, and in Russian and Turkish clubs.
