Former "Athletic Bilbao" and Spanish national team footballer Mikel San Jose has won the right to receive a lifetime pension through the court due to the severe injuries he sustained during his career.
Lent.az reports, citing foreign media, that the Supreme Court of Catalonia has approved the payment of a monthly pension of 1600 euros to the former athlete due to the loss of his ability to work.
The court recognized that San Jose ended his career in 2022 not voluntarily, but for medical reasons.
San Jose was diagnosed with cervical osteoarthritis, intervertebral disc herniations, foraminal stenosis, discopathy in the chest area, and lumbar spondyloarthrosis. This has caused him to experience chronic health problems.
San Jose, who is currently 36 years old, played in a total of 397 matches for "Athletic" and scored 37 goals. He also appeared in 7 matches for the Spanish national team.
