Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe harshly criticized the team's performance after their defeat to Benfica in the UEFA Champions League, stating that the problem was neither tactics nor quality.
Idman.Biz reports that the French footballer said that the main reason for the defeat was the fighting spirit on the field.
"We played terribly. We deserve to be out of the top eight. Today, it wasn't about tactics or quality. It was about fighting more than the opponent. I saw Benfica playing with their lives, but I didn't see that from us," the striker emphasized.
He also did not hide his serious dissatisfaction with the team's unstable performance:
"We can't continue to play so unstable. We can't move forward on a one-day-on, one-day-off principle. Champions don't behave like that. It's very painful to miss the play-off stage. Benfica's fourth goal didn't change anything for us, it just made our disgraceful situation even worse."
Mbappe finally gave a message to the fans:
"Will they whistle at us again this weekend? I hope that the Bernabeu will be on our side and support us."
