USA national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino is dissatisfied with the refereeing in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final match against Mexico (1:2). Sport24.az reports that he stated this to The Athletic.
In the second half, Mexican defender Jorge Sanchez cleared the ball with his hand in his own penalty area, but referee Mario Escobar did not award a penalty.
"I'm not going to cry. I want to tell the truth. If the same thing had happened in our penalty area, it would definitely have been a penalty. Sanchez blocked the ball with his hand. Okay, let them consider these excuses. But know that if it had been a penalty and we had scored, the score could have been 2-1 in our favor. Maybe we would be celebrating the victory now. Everything is clear, there is no need to cry and complain. I was ashamed to look at this situation, it's a disgrace".
Let's note that, Mexico, who defeated the USA with a score of 2:1 in the decisive match of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, became the winner of the tournament.
