Lothar Matthaus, who became world champion with the German national team in 1990, spoke about the 2026 World Cup qualifying match that ended with a 0:2 score against Slovakia.
Idman.biz reports that Matthaus emphasized that the absence of attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala in the German national team had a serious impact on the result:
"You can lose 0:2, but the main thing is how you lose. More than the result, our game surprised me. Our football was terrible. In fact, the score was even good for us. It could easily have been 4:0 or 5:0. It is impossible to replace Musiala individually. Just like it is impossible to replace Messi. I hope he will return soon," Matthaus told Sky Sports Germany.
It should be noted that the German national team will play its next match against Northern Ireland on September 7.
