A total of 35 suspects have been detained as part of the match-fixing and betting investigation carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Sport24.az reports that, based on the data presented by MASAK (Financial Crimes Investigation Commission), 101 footballers were analyzed in terms of financial and betting activities. As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that 27 players, including Galatasaray player Metehan Baltacı, bet on matches involving their own teams.
The investigation materials also determined that Fenerbahçe player Mert Hakan Yandaş placed bets on legal betting sites through an account opened in another person's name.
Regarding the Ankaraspor - Nazilli match, suspicion of "influencing the outcome of the game" has been formed against five people. In connection with the Ümraniyespor - Giresunspor match, it is alleged that there was a match-fixing agreement, and six people have been identified in this episode.
As part of the investigation, the former president of Adana Demirspor, Murat Sancak, former referee Ahmet Çakar, referee Zorbay Küçük and his wife were also detained on the basis of "suspicious financial transactions."
In addition, famous television presenters Ela Rumeysa Cebeci, Meltem Acet and Hande Sarıoğlu were also detained by gendarmerie officers and taken to the department.
