Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that football is the number one sport in his country.
Idman.Biz reports that Canada is one of the countries hosting the 2026 World Cup. The tournament will also be held in the USA and Mexico.
"It's the number one sport for Canadian youth, boys and girls. Two-thirds of Canadians watched the last World Cup," Carney said at the 2026 World Cup draw ceremony.
As the homeland of hockey, the Canadian national team is considered one of the strongest teams in the international arena and is ranked first in the 2024 IIHF World Ranking. Along with the teams of Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic and the USA, it is part of the "big hockey six".
