Young Barcelona midfielder Mark Bernal is expected to become one of the key rotation players for head coach Hansi Flick in 2026.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to the "Sport" publication that Bernal, a graduate of La Masia, was already included in the starting lineup before the serious injury he received in August 2024, and now it is planned to gradually increase his minutes against the background of a tight game schedule.
From the first day, Hansi Flick and the coaching staff, adhering to a cautious roadmap, gave the player low-risk playing time to ensure his full recovery both physically and psychologically.
Due to the high intensity at the beginning of the season, Bernal was only able to play 62 minutes on the field by the end of November. However, his inclusion in the starting lineup and his performance for 45 minutes in the match against Alaves on November 29 is considered a turning point.
His presence on the field for 28 minutes against Real Betis in subsequent matches, 46 minutes in the King's Cup against Guadalajara, and 25 minutes in the match against Villarreal created conditions for him to enter 2026 with positive dynamics.
Against the background of a busy schedule, including the Super Cup, the King's Cup, La Liga and two Champions League games, Mark Bernal is expected to be used more often, especially in the defensive midfielder position.
