Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca spoke about his team's performance after the match against Sunderland in the 9th round of the English Premier League.
Idman.Biz reports that Chelsea lost the game 1:2.
"Overall, I think we weren't good enough. We know that when you don't play well in the Premier League, the results will be terrible. I've said it many times: when you can't win, it's important not to lose.
The second goal was scored with just one long pass into the penalty area, we had two centre-backs against the striker and we didn't defend properly. The first goal was scored by throwing the ball into the box, although it's difficult because six or seven players enter the penalty area at that time. Overall, I think we weren't good enough.
Because the striker's back was to the goal and we were playing two against one, it could have been an easy situation. It was an easy position to defend. But perhaps we were trying to cope a little because it was the 90+3rd minute. But in this case, we absolutely have to play better.
I think we weren't good enough, we lacked creativity, we couldn't create much apart from 1 goal and we struggled. We need our players to play 100%. Even when we were 1-0 down, we lost a few one-on-one duels and lost a few passes. We have to play better against such a team," Maresca told Chelsea's official website.
After this game, the Londoners are eighth in the English Premier League standings with 14 points, while Sunderland is second with 17 points.
