Diego Maradona's football jersey was sold for 152,000 euros at the "Matchday Football Auctions" auction.
İdman.Biz reports with reference to "Mundo Deportivo" that the jersey was sold for 123,000 euros, but due to a 23% commission, the actual price was 152,000 euros. This is Maradona's most expensive jersey ever sold at auction.
Maradona wore this jersey in the 1984 "Copa del Rey" final for "Barcelona". In that final, "Blaugrana" lost to "Athletic Bilbao" (0:1). After the match, a fight broke out on the field, and as a result, the player's uniform was torn.
As stated in the lot description, the jersey was found in the locker room by a club employee who took it to wash it. The woman could not sew it and kept it as a souvenir. Years later, she gave the jersey to a male acquaintance. The jersey was later inherited by the man's son, who put the jersey up for auction.
Maradona died in 2020 at the age of 60. The Argentine football legend won the Spanish Cup and Super Cup with "Barcelona" in 1986. With the Italian team "Napoli", he won the A Series title twice, the Italian Cup, the Super Cup and the UEFA Cup.
