After Carrick's arrival, the team increased their chances of qualifying for the Champions League by winning seven out of 11 games, but a 2:1 defeat to Leeds United on Monday raised doubts among the management.
Keith Wyness, former CEO of Everton, stated that if Carrick's candidacy is rejected, Nagelsmann is the most realistic option. The specialist, who is currently preparing the German national team for the World Cup and has a contract until 2028, is likely to return to club football after the tournament.
For Carrick, the next six games, especially the defensive crisis caused by the absence of Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire, will be a crucial test.
