A man has been arrested in Spain for racially abusing a football coach.
Idman.Biz reports that, according to the decision of the Almeria court, he was sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment.
The incident occurred in July 2023, during a tournament among football players aged 12–14. According to court documents, the accused approached the Ecuadorian coach during the game and began to humiliate him with racial slurs, saying: "Damn n****r, you are paid with my taxes. I will talk to the mayor to fire you."
The accused's sentence was reduced because he confessed to his guilt. Initially, he faced up to 16 months in prison. According to the court's decision, he must also pay a fine of 4 euros per day for 6 months and pay the coach 1,500 euros in moral compensation.
After the decision comes into force, the convict can apply for the replacement of the imprisonment with a suspended sentence within 3 days.
