Former Milan and Italy player Paolo Maldini spoke about the national team's prospects for qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, as well as about head coach Gennaro Gattuso.
Idman.Biz reports that the Italian team will participate in the play-off stage to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. They took second place in qualifying group I with 18 points.
"I hope that Italy will qualify for the World Cup. This applies to the generation that has never seen its team in this tournament and to all of us, because we all support the team. Gattuso embodies the spirit that the national team should always have. As for the team, we must admit that times have changed. I recently saw Germany playing Luxembourg, and Luxembourg was superior in one part. We must understand that all other national teams are developing. We have to catch up with them," said Maldini.
