Former Azerbaijani national team player Maksim Medvedev hopes that the team will show a completely different game in the match against Iceland in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
The former captain of the national team believes that the national team will achieve a good result:
"I think this will not be like the first match against Iceland. Because in the first match, the team really showed football that was not worthy of them. They have probably analyzed the opponent and will not repeat the mistakes again. I hope that the players will perform more confidently, willingly, and we will show completely different football. Because Aykhan Abbasov can prepare the team and will try to achieve better results and fight decently. The national team must be careful to show the game we want and achieve a good result. I believe that the team will do it," he said in a statement to "Report".
He also knows which game head coach Aykhan Abbasov will prefer:
"I know Aykhan muallim's tactics, which kids he attracts, and what kind of game he prefers. If they play football like they played against the Ukrainian national team, it will be difficult for Iceland. It will benefit us if they properly counter-attack from defense and create more goal episodes."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan-Iceland match will start tomorrow at 21:00 at the 8th km settlement stadium.
