"A tough game awaits us tomorrow."
İdman.biz, referring to Sportnet.az, reports that Azerbaijani national team footballer Mahir Emreli said this at a press conference before the 2026 World Cup qualifying group match against the Ukrainian national team in Baku.
According to the 28-year-old striker, the opponent, whose strength is known, has experienced players: "They lost to France in the first game and will want to return to their country with a victory from here. We, on the other hand, will try to make up for the heavy defeat we suffered in Iceland. We are trying to make sure that we are fully prepared for tomorrow's game."
In Emreli's opinion, everyone should understand their responsibility: "In football, there is both criticism and praise, and there are bad times. We have not been able to achieve good results for several games now, and the players are therefore under pressure. But this does not mean that we should be upset. If we achieve a little better results, our players will feel more comfortable. A few months ago, we played a good game against Hungary here, but we lost. Again, there is losing after showing good football, and there is losing without showing a game."
