Azerbaijani national team striker Mahir Emreli has stated that he is unhappy with certain actions taken against him at the German club "Kaiserslautern," where he plays.
"Report" reports that the striker himself said this in a statement to journalists after their match against Ukraine in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
He spoke about his inability to get into the squad at the German club "Kaiserslautern," where he currently plays:
"When I returned to Germany, the sports director and president of "Kaiserslautern" promised to hold a meeting. I will probably find out there the reason why I can't get into the squad. Some processes took place within the club that I didn't like. Some information was circulating that supposedly my relationship with someone in the team had deteriorated. But this is a false rumor. I really haven't done anything wrong. After returning to Germany, we will investigate the reason for the issue. Some actions against me are unbecoming of German football mentality."
M. Emreli commented on the match they lost to Ukraine:
"I don't think that our head coach Aykhan Abbasov will not put me in the starting lineup due to criticism. I was in the starting lineup in the match against France because a more experienced player was needed. In that match, every player did their best. I can't understand the moments that people are dissatisfied with regarding that match. I think we should take a positive approach to the issue. Because we did not allow the French national team to create a real scoring opportunity in the first 45 minutes. During the match, we started to believe that maybe we could get a point from France. Of course, the high-level players in the opponent's squad later had their say. In both matches we played against Ukraine, we did not perform weaker than the opponent."
It should be noted that the Ukraine-Azerbaijan match ended with a 2:1 victory for the former.
