Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić has become the oldest player to score in the European zone of World Cup qualifying.
"Report" reports, citing foreign media, that the captain of the Croatian national team scored a penalty in the match against the Czech Republic (5:1) in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup yesterday.
Modrić, who scored at the age of 39 years and 9 months, has become the oldest European player to score in a World Cup qualifier.
It should be noted that the previous record belonged to Bosnian and Herzegovinian national team striker Edin Džeko. He scored in the match against San Marino (1:0) on June 7 when he was 39 years and 2 months old.
