Portugal U21 national team head coach Luis Freyre commented on his team's 4-0 victory over Azerbaijan in the sixth round of Group B of the European Championship qualifying tournament.
According to Idman.Biz, the coach noted that they knew that a difficult game awaited their team.
"We knew the game wouldn't be easy. Azerbaijan has very fast attacking players, so we had to be careful. Nevertheless, our players played well and that affected the outcome of the match. Everything depended on us. If we hadn't taken the game seriously, things could have been different," Freyre noted.
Freyre also emphasized that the weather conditions did not affect the quality of the game: "It rained from the beginning to the end of the game, but it did not affect the performance."
In addition, the coach noted the strengths of the opponent.
"If we look at the matches of the Azerbaijan national team against strong opponents, it becomes clear that the team tries to defend reliably. I don't know all the details about their player selection, but they have quality players who can be dangerous in counterattacks," he said.
