Luciano Spalletti gave a candid interview, saying that football ruined his life.
"Football turned my life upside down. I loved football more than myself, I sacrificed my closest people..."
According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, the Italian specialist said that the defeat to Norway will never be forgotten: "It keeps me awake at night. It has affected my whole life.
Sometimes I feel happy, but it passes quickly. I couldn't convince the players that I loved them."
Spalletti is still worried about being fired from the national team.
The specialist took charge of the national team in September 2023. He led the team to the 2024 European Championship and was sacked in June 2025 after starting the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Norway.
The 66-year-old Spalletti was asked if he was ready for his next job.
"Right now, my experience working with the Italian national team is still etched in my mind.
I haven't tried to forget it; we must accept the experience and everything it gave us. Things didn't go the way I wanted, but I gave it my all. Now I need some time to come to terms with this pain, then I'll start all over again.
If I didn't want to continue, I would have left, but I was fired," Spalletti said.
It is reported that Luciano may continue his career in Saudi Arabia. Al-Ittihad is considering the Italian as a replacement for the dismissed Laurent Blanc.
