Jamie Carragher believes that Xabi's current unemployment affects the fans' attitude towards Slot:
"Who will replace the coach who is already leading the team to the Premier League title? For Liverpool fans, all roads lead to Alonso. If Xabi was not available, would there be more people willing to give Slot another year if this season is unsuccessful? I think so. That's how I see the situation."
Liverpool fans express their love for Alonso not only with songs, but also with much more. They have filled social media with messages calling for the Spanish footballer to return to Anfield. Merseyside fans have even contacted Xabi's wife, Nagore Aranburu. Peter Crouch was once almost in love with her.
Fans have seen that she has deactivated comments on her social media accounts. The last post about her trip to Paris with Xabi is being shared, but the comments are all about Nagore's husband's job.
It's not just Liverpool fans who are commenting. Many Real fans are writing to say they miss training at the Bernabeu.
Steven Gerrard recently appeared on the Stick to Football podcast. The legend believes it is too early to write off Slot. He then smiled and made it clear that Alonso would be the ideal coach for the Merseyside team - but Arney should be given another chance first.
