Eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi has named the athletes who inspired him throughout his career. Sport24.az reports that the Argentine star spoke about this in an interview with NBC News:
"For Argentinians, Maradona has always been the greatest idol. The whole world knows how important he is to us. I watched the legend's games live when I was little.
As for other sports, I can say the same about Michael Jordan. I am also very impressed by tennis players such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. I think all three have made tennis more serious than before.
I'm sure I've forgotten many athletes. But if I had to name a few more, I would mention basketball players: LeBron James and Steph Curry. They also deserve to be among the best. These are players I admire very much, and I think they have given a lot to this sport."
