Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has been named MLS Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

The Argentinian is the first player in MLS history to win the award in two consecutive years.
Last season he scored 43 goals and provided 26 assists in 49 games. Messi is also the first MLS player to be involved in at least 36 goals in two consecutive league seasons. In the play-off stage, the Argentinian scored or assisted 15 goals, which is another record.
Last season, Messi helped his team win the MLS Cup.
