An interview with Leroy Mikels, a football player from "Zira", for Sport24.az
- In the XVI round of the Misli Premier League, you drew goalless with "Imishli". Why do you think you couldn't win? You seemed ineffective on the field...
- That was the missing part. Our effectiveness in the attack line was not noticeable. If, of course, we could have scored a goal, we would most likely have won. Unfortunately, it didn't happen.
- This season, you have already failed to beat "Imishli" for the second time. Is it particularly difficult to play against them?
- Of course, their coaches' effective ideas, especially in the defense plan, are noticeable. For this reason, it is not possible to create many goal opportunities. But overall, we made our efforts. Of course, we wanted to score and win.
- The first half of the season is over. Are you where you want to be?
- We are currently in 3rd place. But I think we could have scored more points. We will also compete in the ¼ finals of the national cup. It still seems realistic for us to fight for European Cups. The season will continue, and we will work hard until the end for this fight.
- Adel Amrouche, the head coach of the Rwanda national team, also watched the Zira-Imishli match. Did you know about this before the match?
- Yes, yes, I knew. He informed me before he came. He said he wanted to see players for the national team in the match.
- After the game, he also talked to you and your brothers. You will play in the Rwanda national team together with Coy Lens. In general, how did the process start, why the Rwanda national team instead of Congo?
- As you know, Anj Mutsinzi also plays for the Rwanda national team. My grandmother is in Rwanda. That's why Anj offered us to join the Rwanda national team. Everything started after that.
- Actually, this question was once asked to your brother Coy-Lens, I wanted to ask it to you as well. Can we say Mikels Premier League instead of Misli Premier League? All three brothers are leading players in their clubs in this league...
- I think that maybe after the championship is over, if "Sabah" becomes the champion, and if my brother sees the championship, then you can call the championship Mikels (laughs).
- Do you see "Sabah"'s championship as real? They also defeated "Qarabag". Does "Zira" have a better chance, or "Sabah"?
- The championship is a long marathon. There may be many ups and downs in the second half of the season. "Sabah" currently deserves 1st place. We'll see what happens in the future.
- Will you spend the holiday in Baku or in Germany?
- I'm going to Germany. I may also go to the Netherlands later. We only have 10 days.
