13 clubs playing in the Chinese top league have been deducted points and fined. Sport24.az reports, citing CCTV News, that this was carried out as part of the state's large-scale anti-corruption campaign in football.
According to the source, "Shanghai Shenhua" and Tianjin Jinmen Tiger" clubs each had 10 points deducted from their score and were fined 1 million yen (120,100 euros). Other clubs, including the latest national champion "Shanghai Port" (five points deducted), received less severe penalties.
It should be noted that Chen Xuyuan, the former president of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), who was sentenced to life imprisonment for bribery in 2024, and Li Tie, the former head coach of the Chinese national team, were among the 73 people banned from football for life.
