Barcelona and Spain national team striker Lamine Yamal has criticized Spanish fans for anti-Muslim chants during a friendly match against Egypt (0:0). Sport24.az reports that the young star footballer shared this on his social media account:
"I am a Muslim. The chant 'Whoever doesn't jump is a Muslim' was heard at the stadium in Barcelona. I understand that this was aimed at the opponent and not at me personally. But as a Muslim, I find this disrespectful and unacceptable. I understand that not all fans are like this. For those who say such things, using religion as mockery in the stadium is to show themselves as ignorant and racist. It is not right to insult people for who they are and what they believe in. Nevertheless, we thank those who come to support us. See you at the World Cup."
It should be noted that the Spain-Egypt match was held at the "Cornellà-El Prat" stadium in Barcelona. Around the 20th minute of the match, some fans began chanting "Whoever doesn't jump is a Muslim."
