The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Luzan, has commented on the exclusion of Barcelona forward Lamin Yamal from the national team squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Turkey in November.
Idman.Biz reports that Yamal has been excluded from the Spanish national team for medical reasons.
"We have to take care of the player. Sometimes situations arise that could be better resolved, but he is a club player, a national team player, and important for both. We will hope for his speedy recovery. These are unexpected situations, and we have to act. We do not intend to create controversy. The main thing is that he is with the club and the national team," Marca quotes Luzan as saying.
The decision about Yamal was made without the consent of the national team's medical staff, which caused surprise and discontent among the coaching staff.
