Italian politician Ignazio La Russa has criticised national team coach Gennaro Gattuso for complaining about the negative chants Italian fans directed at the team during the World Cup 2026 qualifier against Moldova.
İdman.Biz reports that the match ended in a 2-0 victory for the Italians.
"We should all be united in the hope that Italy will qualify for the World Cup, but jeers from the crowd can also be a motivation. Protest cannot be considered excessive unless it turns into violence. You can't say 'shame on' the fan who jeers; you have to thank them, because it symbolizes their love for our team", - Football Italia quotes La Russa.
After seven qualifying matches, Italy has 18 points and is in second place in Group I, three points behind leaders Norway.
