La Liga president Javier Tebas has denied recent claims by former Barcelona coach Xavi about the failed move of forward Lionel Messi to the club in 2023.
Idman.Biz reports that Xavi previously claimed that Messi's return to Barcelona was already finalized after the 2022 World Cup.
"La Liga did not give any permission for Messi to return to Barcelona in 2023," Tebas said.
Xavi noted that the forward wanted to return and that the club had obtained permission from La Liga. However, Barcelona president Joan Laporta stopped the transfer, citing that Messi's return would cause a salary war that the club could not afford.
