Sergey Yuran, the former coach of Serikspor, told Sport-Express about the advice Kurban Berdyev, the coach of Turan Tovuz, gave him. Sport24.az presents a part of that interview.
- Did you consult with anyone about how to build relationships with Turkish players?
- I met with Kurban Berdyev in Turkey. At that time, a friend and I were at a training camp near Ankara. And it so happened that we stayed in the same hotel as Berdyev's team. He came to Turkey with the Turan team from Azerbaijan. That evening, we drank tea and talked with him. He shared his thoughts.
- So what did he say to you?
- "Sergey, listen more. I know you are an emotional person. But don't tighten the "screws" too quickly. Do everything calmly, gradually make your own way. Listen to everyone, but go your own way. Just please, don't be too harsh. Agree with everything, but continue on your way (smiles)." Kurban Bekievich also advised us to communicate more with the team's veterans, to explain why we do this or that exercise in training. In other words, we should have our own approach to them.
- Did the advice work?
- Yes. Everything happened as he said. We conveyed our requirements to the children without offending anyone. As I said, the East is a delicate matter. People there sometimes get offended very quickly. Therefore, there is no need to escalate the situation.
