Former Nigerian national team footballer John Obi Mikel has shared a memory involving Lionel Messi.
İdman.Biz, citing "Sportexpress", reports that the Nigerian footballer recalled the award ceremony for the best player of the U-20 World Championship.
In that tournament, the "Golden Ball" went to Messi, and the "Silver Ball" went to John Obi Mikel.
However, Mikel was not satisfied with the result at the time and said, "I think I deserved this award more."
Obi Mikel recalls that he still remembers L. Messi's answer to him.
"This was not my decision. The committee made this decision. But you did an amazing job for your country," the young Messi said at the time.
A little later, the footballers met again in the dressing room. Messi seriously told Mikel, "If you want, we can exchange awards."
But the Nigerian star did not accept this gesture:
"I told him that you fully deserved this award. I was just disappointed. Thank you for your kindness."
