Former Newcastle United player Joey Barton has criticized Alexander Isak following his controversial transfer from the club to Liverpool.
Idman.biz reports that Isak has moved from Newcastle to Liverpool for £125 million (€145 million), a record deal in English football history. The Swedish striker did not play in the first rounds of the Premier League and did not train with Newcastle in order to move to Merseyside.
"If Alexander Isak got injured, Newcastle would pay him his salary in full for the entire duration of his contract. So if that's the loyalty of a football club to a player, then where is the player's loyalty to the club? Alexander Isak will still get the same salary if he gets injured.
From an investment point of view, you've shown everyone that contracts are worthless. Secondly, I say to those who praise him, who pat him on the head, he should be booed in every stadium for this behavior. He behaved like a proper bastard, and I think we need to be mindful of the consequences of Isak's behavior. Footballers are mercenaries," Barton said.
Alexander Isak has been playing for Newcastle since the summer of 2022. In total, he has scored 54 goals and provided 10 assists in 86 Premier League matches. The Swede will wear the number 9 shirt at Liverpool.
