Former German national team coach Joachim Löw, talking about a possible boycott of the 2026 World Cup, compared the situation with the previous two World Championships.
"Before the 2018 World Cup in Russia, we had our disputes, and before the 2022 championship in Qatar, we had boycott calls. But playing in a country that is actively at war is more dangerous. The political situation completely overshadows the tournament," Löw was quoted as saying on DW Sports X social media account.
On February 28, the US and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran. The Islamic Republic responded by striking American military bases and other targets located in Israel, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain.
